Kamakiri sits patiently, imitating nature, calm yet deadly with total focus. In Japan the mantis is a symbol of autumn often expressed in the arts, particularly samurai sword fittings such as the tsuba. Due to their formidable skill as a predator, the mantis is referred to as the samurai of the insect world.
The role of the samurai was to govern and protect, much like the mantis protects crops by eliminating harmful insects. Over centuries Samurai would display the mantis symbol with pride on their sword fittings, expressing the significance of their role in society as a protector.
In this arrangement fiery orange Gerbera form the long neck and large compound eyes of the mantis. Madagascar dragon tree leaves boldly represent the prominent front spear like legs, still, aware and ready to snare her prey at any second.
