Description:
The original Rai Minamoto Kunitsugu was one of the 10 famous students of the greatest swordsmith that ever lived, Masamune back in the 14th century.
It is he that provided this 17th century Edo-period swordsmith Daijo Minamoto Kunitsugu with the enormous inspiration to create this remarkable sword. The Yamashiro (Kyoto) and Soshu (Kamakura) traditions highly influenced this piece as represented by the exquisite results and chiseled engravings on the tang.
The rare and desirable hitatsura hamon (full temper with tobiyaki spots over the blade) is an example of heating the sword to extremely high temperatures, helping to make the sword very sharp and visually stunning.
The NBTHK designated this sword with Tokubestu Kicho vintage certification, meaning an especially precious katana. As a signed and certified piece, this sword is highly collectible and one that will hold excellent value in the long term.
A custom koshirae (mounting) will put the absolute finishing touch on this true gem.
