Octagon Rosewood Chopsticks
Pictured here is a wonderful pair of versatile chopsticks hand-carved from beautiful chocolate-brown rosewood.
What makes these octagon-shaped chopsticks truly special is how they retain their symmetry for the entire length of the chopstick. Right down to the tip there are 8 sides. As far as we know, no other chopstick maker creates with such remarkable attention to detail.
Details include:
- Cut the carefully selected wood to the desired size. The wood used is either imported rosewood or ebony.
- Shave the wood using a specially designed plain from the Edo period (1603-1867). The artist rotates and gently shears each chopstick countless number of times until it reaches a preferred state.
- Once a group of chopsticks are created, they are dampened and spun together to create a unified length.
- With approximately seven chopsticks laid side-by-side in one hand, the craftsman polishes the chopsticks into their final shape.
- The chopsticks are polished again and laid to dry naturally under the sun for 1 day.
- A final polish and buff is applied, thus delivering a distinguished shine that helps to preserve the wood. With time, the chopstick will “age” gracefully and beautifully.
