Kurotake bamboo floral stand and bowl

JYUNAMI (wave)
What a fine and versatile decorative floral idea for the home. Aptly named “JYUNAMI”, meaning “wave”, this unique kurotake (black bamboo) piece can be laid on its back or on its side, cradling the small bowl that comes with it. The Ajiro weave pattern is an original creation by the artist who hails from the Totorri prefecture, a very peaceful city nestled along the northern coast of central Japan.
Among all Japanese crafts, bamboo basketry holds a deep and special meaning. Fashioned with seemingly limitless diversity, both symbolic and functional, bamboo adds value and significance to everyday life in Japan. Far more than simple decorations, these floral ideas come with the hope that their owners attain a greater awareness and appreciation of nature and the seasonal changes that surround us all.

Kurotake bamboo

Kurotake, meaning “black bamboo” in Japanese, is a running bamboo, which is a variety of bamboo that tends to spread above ground. Kurotake can be used for the creation of ornamental pieces, but it has many other uses such as construction and fence building. The culms darken and turn black best in direct sunlight and, in ground, can spread to about 10 meters (30 feet) in all directions in just 6 months.
