Description:
Behold a marvelously old katana in brilliant condition.
Swordsmith Katsuie comes from a lineage of master swordsmiths that dates back to Echizen Chiyozuru School. Their location in mountainous Kaga and Echizen provinces was strategically selected for it’s cool climate and pure water that was said to be superior to forge with.
Rarely do swords come better balanced. The splendid itame (wood grain) body gives the blade is strength and the wavy gunome hamon is such a feast for the eyes.
There is something to be said for a chiseled engraving of just two bold family characters. It reflects the ancient times (koto) of master sword making. Simple and to the point, this is a sword by Katsuie.
And as a general rule with Japanese Samurai swords, the fewer the characters chiseled on the tang, the OLDER the sword is. It’s certainly the case here.
The sword is certified Hozon (sword worthy of conserving) by the prestigious NBTHK. A custom-made koshirae made to your specifications would compliment this sword perfectly.
