Handmade & Handpainted Kokeshi Doll AME AGARI RED

after the rain - red
Kokeshi dolls are beautiful handmade wooden dolls that originate from the northern region of Japan. Aside from their decorative qualities, many Japanese people believe having a kokeshi doll in their home or office will help prevent fires and ward off evil spirits.
This particular design is called AME AGARI, meaning “after the rain” in Japanese. This young girl is wearing a lovely orange kimono while holding a multi-coloured traditional Japanese umbrella known as wagasa in Japan. The doll’s meaning is one of happiness and hope – symbolized by the end of the rain and time for the start of happy and exciting times.
