This is another impressively long sword in the collection, and signed by Kobayashi Ise no Kami Kuniteru and dated back in February 1676. It’s always great to have a sword both signed AND dated.

The sword is impeccable condition, absolutely smooth as silk, with a straight suguha hamon that is stunning. The body is a combination of mokume (wood grains) and the ever-so-precious nagarehada (swirling waves).

Interestingly enough, just prior to this date, the Tokugawa family made moves to restrict the size of swords to as long 2-shaku 8-sun (or about 80cm). This is basically made just within the legal limit.
