Description:
Some swords exude a very real spirit of inspiration. This is one such sword.
This gorgeous long katana is blessed with a lovely undulating hamon (temper line) with small cloves nestled into a picture perfect koitame (tight grain) body. A tight grained body is a sign of a well-constructed sword that is admired by connoisseurs.
The tsuba (guard), the fuchi-gashira (collar and pommel), plus the menuki (eyelets under the hilt) are all skillfully crafted works of art that feature a common theme of dragonflies.
The Samurai revered the dragonfly because when they flew, they flew forward and never retreated. Dragonflies are a symbol of determination and bravery, reflecting the very essence of the Samurai themselves.
An original moon-designed habaki (blade collar) that keeps the sword still in the scabbard further distinguishes this collectible piece. This is also a suitable sword for Iaido (the art of drawing the sword) practitioners given its extraordinary balance, shape and length.
This is a fascinating piece that, rightly so, earns respectful attention. Recommended.
