NHK Documentary on Japanese Sword Polishing: “In Love with the Samurai Sword”

Sasaki-sensei-apprentices-pablo-nhk-950

Earlier this year, I was approached by NHK Enterprises in Japan to take part in a 50-minute documentary on the fine art of Japanese sword polishing.
I was humbled by the opportunity.  Throughout the days we filmed together I was able to dive deeper into this incredible craft.  A craft that truly deserves greater appreciation.
I met renowned sword polisher Sasaki-sensei and his skilled apprentices, specifically Yuichi-san who worked hard on a beautiful Yasusada wakizashi that I submitted for polishing.
I am pleased to say that the documentary was aired online globally on Sunday August 24th.  I don’t know if it will be re-aired although it is my understanding that Discovery Canada is a co-producer and will broadcast the documentary in 2015.
The title of the documentary is called:
“In Love with the Samurai Sword”
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Frederick Martin, a client who has acquired antique swords from Unique Japan who kindly agreed to be part of the documentary.  Arigato Fred-san!
I must say that the filming was meticulously done and shot in high-spec 4K.  It is an enjoyable and educational adventure into this admirable art form.
A copy of the documentary has been posted on YouTube (not by Unique Japan).

I’d like to express my sincere gratitude for everyone’s passion, support and enthusiasm.  Your appreciation of the Japanese sword and what it  represents spiritually ensures that it will live on and on.
Warm regards,
