A Sukesada & Yasunaga Daishô
Kotô period (Late Muromachi)

Here is a brilliant daishô formed of two Osafune war veterans from the Muromachi period – Sukesada and Yasunaga. The katana is gloriously curved, and the wakizashi features abundant activity with a particularly bright nioiguchi. The daishô koshirae displays a powerful unified theme of dragons.

A Ko-Mihara Katana
Kotô period (Eitoku era: 1381–1384)
NBTHK Jûyô Tôken (59th)
This is a wonderful Ko-Mihara katana from the Nanbokuchô period, carrying the 59th session Jûyô Tôken designation. Exquisitely forged itame threaded with chikei, covered by a wide, bright suguha; sayagaki by Tanobe-sensei that calls it a healthy and fine work. If you live quietly in your thoughts and adore great jihada, then this sword will speak loudly to you.

A Jitsu'a Naginata-naoshi Wakizashi
Kotô period (Karyaku era: 1326–1329)
NBTHK Jûyô Tôken
This is a stunning Kamakura-period jûyô tôken naginata-naoshi wakizashi with gorgeous jihada. Jitsu’a was the son of Sairen Kuniyoshi, and the father of grandmaster Sa, founder of the famous Sa school.

A Morihiro Katana

This powerful and extra sharp katana by Chiyozuru Morihiro was crafted in Echizen during the late Nambokuchô period and features a gold-inlay tameshigiri cutting test – rare to see on a Kôtô period sword. A piece that literally draws attention.

This classy Shikkake school katana exhibits a glorious example of shikkake-hada that is coupled with beautiful black and gold swirling lacquered set of koshirae that was clearly inspired by the jihada of the sword. Pure, understated samurai elegance.

A Nidai Tadakuni Katana

Here is a terrific katana by second generation Tadakuni, a jô-saku and wazamono ranked swordsmith that crafted excellent swords. Gorgeous Hizen konuka-hada, a bright beautiful suguha hamon all housed in a handsome late Edo-period koshirae. An ideal katana to kick start a Japanese sword collection with.

A Masafusa Katana
Shintô period (Kyôhô era: 1716–1736)
NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon
Sandai Masafusa forged this katana in January 1727 in the one domain that never set down its sword. Satsuma is the home of the most uncompromising warriors of the Edo period. This incredible katana was once owned by Kenshiro Abbe, the man who brought aikido to the UK. The blade was chosen for him by Nobuo Ogasawara of the Tokyo National Museum.

One of only ten ô-suriage mumei Aoe blades to achieve Tokubetsu Jûyô on merit alone – no provenance needed. Magnificent chirimen-hada with iconic sumihada and precise suguha hamon. Selected by the NBTHK as a study sword in November 2025.
