This impressive piece is a Naval Officer’s katana sword from WWII in full mounting.

What makes this sword extra special is for the fact the blade has been recently restored with an exquisite polish that brings out its strikingly beautiful hamon (temper line). A new polish will always benefit the life of the sword.

It is a fact that Japanese Naval Officer swords with WWII mountings are increasingly rare to find, especially when compared to Japanese swords from the Army of the same period. Many swords were lost at sea for example.

The scabbard is in excellent condition, made from sharkskin with a near complete set of clasps making it more valuable as a collectible. Notice the “rising sun” motifs on the tsuba (guard) all match, which is important to look for.

This is a rare find and a superb keepsake from Japan that will be widely admired.
