A TADAMITSU KATANA

tadamitsu-2-Edit-union-square-700

Overview

This excellent katana by Jo-saku (superior smith) Bizen Osafune Tadamitsu is both signed and dated to August 1503 during the heart of the Sengoku Jidai (Warring States period).
It is a formidable sword with a cutting edge of 70cm and just one hole in the ubu-nakago (unaltered tang).
The sword went on to gain coveted NTHK-NPO Yushuto status, the high level of achievement within the non-profit sword preservation society.
The beautiful koshirae features a fuchi-kashira depicting a family of tigers within a bamboo grove, signed by Yasuchika, a leading figure of the Nara school. The Edo-period saya, lacquered in a seeming burnt striped formation pays a compliment to the finely crafted fittings.

This sword was sold to a private collector.
