A BIZEN YOKOYAMA SUKENORI WAKIZASHI

sukenori-combined-700

Overview

This is a seriously charismatic Shinshinto wakizashi proudly produced by swordsmith Sukenori.
A representative smith of the Bizen Yokoyama School, Sukenori is said to be the 56th generation of the great Bizen Tomonari (circa 938~987AD) and the sword is signed with this honourable distinction.
The sword is dated the 12th month in the 13th year of Bunsei, which translates to December 1830.
A stunning hamon (temper line) travels above the cutting edge and the mune (spine) of the sword and forms what is known as Fujimi Saigyo – “Priest Saigyo viewing Mount Fuji in his bamboo hat.”
It depicts a travelling Zen priest being in the moment as he enjoys the beautiful view. The blade is uniquely constructed in Kanmuri Otoshi Zukuri (thickness of the spine thins halfway up the blade to tip.)
Surely this was a specially ordered wakizashi.
Scroll down the page to discover the unique attributes of this wakizashi that includes a 1000-year old tachi by National Treasure tachi by Bizen Tomonari.
This sword was sold to a collector in the United Kingdom.
